THANK YOU
Many 'thank you's to everyone who has donated to Music Revival! We have received support from a large number of regular supporters who have donated the equivalent of concert tickets after watching our online livestreams. This has helped enormously. Others donated after having experiencied our concerts for the first time. Several individuals have also been very generous with substantial donations. For all these contributions we are extremely grateful. Your contributions have sustained us comfortably through the first month! We ideally do like to thank and acknowledge all donors individually so please do check that your full name is included in any EFT payment reference.
VISITS
Our website, a major source of our community contribution, has been visited by 2672 visitors in the last 30 days, peaking at 415 visits on 29 March, the first day of lockdown.
LIVE-STREAMS
We invite you to join the 'crowd' and view the current and most recent performances on our website. Using headphones will increase the enjoyment!
Our livestreams are offered on various platforms on Thursday and Saturday at 6:00 pm. Gather your popcorn and snacks, and a glass of something!
For best sound and audio use Vimeo or here at our website
YouTube is easily accessible
Facebook pages offer the possibility to comment, say 'Hi', respond and see who else you know is online watching.
You an also watch these after the event on our website.
NEW - PATREON
Please visit and subscribe to our new Patreon page. Although little content is loaded (we are running behind!) we start two major projects this week. The first is a weekly article covering various subjects relating to the personas experiences and observations of presenting online concerts, entrepreneurial approaches to concertising, aspects of a pianist's life and even recipes served at our home concerts!
Patreon is a very useful platform in that the pledge of a monthly support creates a regular and predictable income stream. This not only supports the online concerts (which we aim to keep free to the public) but is in exchange for exclusive content only patrons will have access to.
SUGGEST?
I am also asking for input on what your our audiences would like to see in addition to our online services - more concerts, more discussion, organised music-appreciation courses? Please let us know at chris@musicrevival.co.za
Best wishes,
Chris

We will continue to do our best to provide opportunities to enjoy our music online! Please see below for the results.
Please continue to support us and our move to online platforms. We invite you to view the six live performances on our website that were live-stream sessions of the past three weeks. Using headphones will help with the 'not so perfect' sound!

23 March 2020
Music and images as seen by my phone.
The day that was 23 March 2020. This popped up as a memory on my phone yesterday. It seems like the right mood for now after the Presidential declaration of the state of disaster in South Africa.
(Recorded driving through Loskop, KZN 2 May 2014 with David Salleras filming while a home recording of 'Soledad' was playing.)
19 March 2020, 10h29.
Of all the industries currently effected by the COVID-19 pandemic, perhaps the most immediate effects are being felt by performing artists. The reasons for this, I'm sure at this stage, are well-known by all, as this is a situation effecting every profession.
However, as many a performer has been told, 'the show must go on'. I therefore intend to continue performing and bringing the gift of music to all my fans, through whichever device or platform you choose.
So without further ado, I present my first online performance of Frédéric Chopin's 'Grande valse brilliante', enjoy!
Video by: Stoke House Video
This video was commissioned a week before the Presidential declaration of disaster in South Africa. The video was directed and produces by Brad Malherbe and shot at my home Casa Mexicana where I practice daily and hold monthly concerts. The audio track used is from the CD ‘Christopher Duigan plays Chopin’ ( recorded at M1 Studo SABC Durban in 2016) which allowed for multiple camera angles to blend seamlessly. The video offers wonderful up-close details of the workings of the piano (and pianist) and also a rewarding glimpse of the venue.
An original and spontaneous ‘live’ improvisation on ‘The Annunciation Carol’ Recorded 20 June 2016.
I was asked by Epworth School Music Director David Orr to perform one of my own pieces with orchestra in this concerts and also to ‘improvise’ on this carol which he sleeted was part fo the theme. Improvising in public is not something I usually did ( i attempt to do this more regularly) as it is a daunting experience. To sit down and play, breaking the silvery silence, with little or no clear idea of where the music will take you, trusting only that you fingers will carry you through, is thrilling and exasperating at the same time. The recorded outcome is actually quite pleasing ( better than what I recall) and has encouraged me to do more of these kind of improvisations ‘off the cuff’.
